LANDSCAPING FOR SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES
Want to create inspiring educational outdoor spaces where pupils or students can learn, relax or play? We work with primary, secondary and special needs schools to create inspirational school gardens.
Having vegetable gardens in schools offers opportunities to teach children life skills such as gardening and cooking, gives them a focus and teaches patience, cooperation, teamwork and social skills as well as giving them a sense of pride and ownership. For special needs schools this also offers a sensory experience.
Creating wildlife friendly habitats in your school garden can give children an active interest in the wildlife as well as the gardens being beneficial for birds, beetles and butterflies to find food and shelter.
An engaging outdoor space creates teaching spaces and dynamic learning environments which can improve engagement. Outdoor classrooms provide schools with extra space and a bespoke learning environment unique to your school.
Forest gardens can be a way of incorporating useful trees and bushes into school gardens. Layers of a natural forest are mimicked using a system of trees, shrubs and perennial plants.
The use of plants and shrubs with striking colours along with textured slabs, cobbles and tiles are beautiful ways to get children to explore their senses. Water features, musical walls and different shaped benches will allow children to explore and can create great focal points for sensory gardens.
While sensory gardens are great for children with sensory impairments, the whole school community can enjoy the garden for outdoor learning activities too.
Artificial lawn sports surfaces
School surfaces can be made much more accessible with artificial turf and artificial grass pitches. It is a natural choice for playground surfacing as it provides a soft safe surface, durable enough to withstand heavy use all year round with low maintenance. Many artificial surfaces have the benefit of no toxic chemicals being used on them and so are better for allergy sufferers.
A smart bin and recycling store will make a big difference to the appearance of your schools’ outdoor area. It will also protect your rubbish from vermin such as urban foxes. Our attractive bin stores are designed bespoke to fit any space and are made from cedar wood.
School Garden Projects and Maintenance
Planting and hedging for school grounds can add beautiful boundaries, security and privacy. For areas up to around 300m2, we can carry out the entire project. If your area is larger, we recommend you use a designer and we will work with them to implement the scheme.
Kiwi Landscapes can work around your school schedule, carrying out your school garden project during the holidays keeping mess and disruption to a minimum. A Project Manager liaises with you throughout to ensure that the project runs smoothly, and our friendly landscapers will work hard to get the job done, achieve the agreed standards and in the agreed timeframe.
We use trusted suppliers with whom we have developed long-standing relationships and who provide good quality, durable materials.
